New Harmony carbon fiber endpin

As you can tell from the topic, you can tell what I got recently. Now On to the review!

After popping my endpin into the slot, I noticed a measurable difference in weight, not a whole lot, but a surprising amount.

After playing though most of the songs I know, I was amazed at the difference! Before my cello would have a decent full ring even after I stopped bowing, but now its sounds like I'm still playing even though I've already lifted my bow away from the strings! Before I had to baby my C and G strings to get them to ring, now I barely have to try! She rings like I'm literally in a cathedral!

Now two things, some people might not like it. She rings so much that some might think the sound gets in the way of other strings. I personally love it.

And two, my results are not typical. I feel like I've got a 5-10% improvement, but my cello already rang like a cymbal.

I think, in my opinion, that to kinda test to see if your cello will take well to the lighter appendage, try different strings. If you have changed strings around a bit, or are about too, and you notice the your cello improves with better strings, such as more ring or louder sound, you will likely see a difference with this addition.

Of course, I'm no expert, so don't take what I say as absolute fact; If you notice positive effects with small changes such as strings, all the more likely you will have positive changes with this.

If someone goes to get this end pin put in they probably shouldn't expect this to happen, but since there is such a wide range of possible results dependent on the cello and player, it's very hard to say what, if anything, is typical.

The strings and end pin are two completely separate things. They interact, of course, and influence the sound and feel of the cello, but different strings will not tell you if a new end pin will be beneficial.

I'm glad to hear it worked out so well for you. Congratulations. Be careful with the tip on that thing though, it will piece tile.

That's exactly what I meant, they are completely different. I was just thinking that if the cello improves with other changes, such as different strings, or a different tailpiece, then maybe the instrument will be more receptive to this and other changes. Like the instrument is trying to breathe, and you take the weight of its chest piece by piece?

maybe I'm just crazy and I should listen to the guy who has done this longer than me

Thanks for the reply!
The point will come in handy when someone boos one of my performances.

P.S.
What I meant by typical is that it won't work for everyone, its gonna be a gamble.

Glad you like your new carbon fiber endpin. They're absolutely wonderful and so many cellists use them now.

What endpin sounds best really depends on the cello and probably the setup I think. My teacher actually has a huge collection of endpins (probably around 20-30ish) which I tried before buying. I ended up trying everything from wood (which was amusing), to carbon fiber, to steel, to aluminum.
