Soft Cello Case

Postby ABVCello » Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:56 pm

Hello! I'm trying to find a soft cello case. Something with enough padding, but not too heavy because that's the reason I'm looking for a new case (my hard case is giving me neck pain from lugging it around too much...) Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Look for brands such as Dimbath, Ritter, or Bobelock.

You could also check out this case, its quite interesting and lightweight. http://www.lindawest.com/product_p/cocoon.htm

They do have soft cello cases with wheels. One of my friends had one. It's padded, hard in some places, can be wheeled or carried. I'll look into it a little more if you're interested.

I have a wonderful carbon fibre cello case, which weighs about 3kg by itself, with wheels but straps if you want to carry it. Not sure what brand it is, I'll do some digging. However, it wasn't cheap. But money VERY well spent.

The caccoon is you best bet if you want a soft case that is light yet still protective. It is also quite cost effective. If you can afford it, then go for a nice carbon fibre cello case with wheels. The wheels work well on smooth surfaces (tiled floors are bad as the constant impact may shift some things arounds) and the case if light enough to carry over the rough patches. There are quite a few brands and prices go up as weight goes down. It really does depend on your wallet, unfortunately, as to which cello case you will ultimately get.

One real thing to consider is the cello itself. Is it worth it to spend a couple of thousand to get the stronget and lightest case on the market, or would a soft case suffice?

Hope this helps.
